Hello! After a short break away last week I am back in the shop with a brand new vintage & antique drop coming this Friday at 7pm! Until then, here is my latest roundup of 3 of my favourites vintage pieces currently in the shop - and why I love them!
1. As you know if you've been following this shop for a while, I have a slight obsession with antique nightgowns - French and Italian in particular. I love the quality of the materials (always natural fibers, like lnen, hemp or cotton), their romantic beauty and details (from lace to monograms), the skill and craftsmanship, their historical value...and how they make you feel like a heroine from a novel as soon as you wear them! This week I have a very special piece in that I simply have to feature here: this incredible, rare Pure linen French Victorian chemise with stunning light blue embroidery.
Antique chemises from the late 1890s are usually white and at most feature small red monogram details. This rare beauty, however, was obviously intended to be a luxury item and as such displays some gorgeous sky blue embroidery and a dreamy square maxicollar with scalloped trim. The puff sleeves are also spectacular: finished with gorgeous foldover cuffs, expertly embroidered to match the collar. This is one to treasure and pass on as a heirloom!
2. For the next piece we jump from the 1890s to the 1980s...with this stunning vintage mohair balloon sleeve cardigan Made in Italy! Ultra-soft and cosy, it buttons at the waist with tiny jewel buttons and comes with gorgeous sequinned epaulettes at the shoulders - perfect to add a bit of sparkle for the festive season coming up!
3. And finally one of my favourites from the Vintage Outerwear section at the moment: this fab, fitted vintage 1970s suede jacket with its typical retro design. The front is in soft, chocolate brown suede while the back and sleeves are a cosy ribbed knit. It is lined in brown satin and comes with classic suede detail at the back.
With front pockets, it zips all the way up to the neckline and would look dreamy teamed with a cream rollneck and wide leg jeans! It is also in superb condition. Perfect for layering under a coat or on its own for warmer days.
